In 2011, Amir Khan fought Lamont Peterson losing a highly controversial decision where he was deducted 2 points, and where suspicious activity occurred throughout the fight concerning the judges, including third-party scorecard tampering. It was the very definition of "home cooking". Many thought Khan beat Peterson but, in his home town, Peterson was awarded the win and walked away with Khan's IBF and WBA titles.
A rematch was quickly sanctioned whereupon, during training, it was discovered Peterson was cheating using PEDs. Shell-shocked and disorientated by being caught, Peterson soon admitted to cheating in the first fight also. Immediately upon this revelation the WBA rightfully declared the first fight a No Contest and Khan's WBA belt was returned. Of course this was the correct course of action since the rematch had followed the first fight immediately and there were no fights in between so the belts didn't even have an opportunity to change hands again.
But, in one of the most disgraceful decisions in the history of boxing, the IBF simply allowed Peterson to keep the belts even though it had been proven he had cheated to acquire them.
Effectively, the IBF demonstrated to Khan that they found it perfectly acceptable for a fighter to cheat against him. They allowed a fighter who cheated to simply keep the belt, even after the WBA title had been returned to Khan due to incontrovertible proof (including self-admission) of Peterson cheating. And that's why Khan should never fight for an IBF title again.
