Comments Thread For: Cunningham Says Fury is Capable of Stunning Klitschko

Former champion Steve Cunningham is really looking forward to Wladimir Klitschko scheduled defense of the WBO/IBO/WBA/IBF heavyweight titles against mandatory challenger Tyson Fury on October 24th in Germany.

Cunningham has been in camp with both fighters, and faced Fury in the ring on April 20th of 2013 at The Theater in New York's Madison Square Garden. He dropped Fury (24-0, 18KOs) in the second round, but saw himself get knocked out in the seventh.

How it is that Fury works so hard, but has the physique of Baby Huey? Is it a stealth mode physique that lulls his opponents to be overconfident? Or is it that Tyson is eating too much of what he should not eat at all?

Fury might look a bit chubby around the edges, but he's probably the fittest HW on the planet, with the best engine. He fights strong for 12 rounds, and doesn't rely on leaning all over his opponent every few seconds to catch a break ala Wlad.

Back on topic, Cunningham knows what he's talking about. Fury has a good chance, it's why people are excited about this fight.

Wlad's getting older and slower, and Fury's a big guy. It's certainly a possibility, even if it's not that likely.

Fury's stamina is what I think could win this for him. It all depends on whether he can read Wlad's punches and avoid being tagged by a big one, to take it into the later rounds.

As a Fury fan, I'm hoping his ability to throw quick counters, at both long and short range, will make Wlad wary of opening up and committing himself to big punches, giving Fury time to think and wait for opportunities to open up himself.

Fury is the only HW in the world who I believe could win a "chess match" type fight with Wlad. He's a lot smarter than most people think, and has a very astute tactician in his corner - Uncle Pete - who's advice he follows.

Take to the later rounds, get a feel for what Wlad can and cannot do, then step up the pace when the old boy starts slowing down. If he can do that, Fury can win on points or late stoppage.

If it goes to plan and Fury avoids anything big and takes into the late rounds, I honestly think Wlad might gas and Fury will get the ref to wave it off. Wlad can obviously fight for 12 but at his own pace. If Fury constantly pressures him & can land his own punches...

Interesting how we all can have opposite opinions. I have Fury gassing later on and his best chances coming earlier in the fight - 1st 2 rounds.

Fury was floored by Pajkic and Cunningham, and rocked by Chisora and Firtha. I think Wlad will knock him out.

Clay was floored by Cooper and Banks, and went life and death with Doug Jones. Imagine what Sonny Liston would do to him

Being floored is different to being hurt. Fury was dropped both times due to woeful defence, but wasn't hurt on either occasion. The Fury 2.0 of today is a completely different fighter with a vastly improved technique and defence.

Wlad could certainly KO him though, no doubt about it. Can't wait!!!
