  • Comments Thread For: Jessie Vargas, Erik Morales To Continue Relationship

After more than two weeks of uncertainty, former four division world champion Erik 'El Terrible' Morales has announced that he will continue as head trainer of junior welterweight/welterweight contender Jessie Vargas, who lost his unbeaten record on June 27 in California against Timothy Bradley. It was first fight in the Vargas/Morales working relationship. Morales replaced another former four division champion in Roy Jones Jr.

Jessie didn't do **** of what he said he was gonna do against Bradley pre-fight.

I don't think staying with Morales might be the best thing for him, especially now since he was exposed as a C fighter and he needs another trainer to really improve him.

This Vargas guy didn't even apply what he learned from the great Morales. He just resumed his one-punch KO gameplan, which started with De Marco, thinking that he's going to have a shot at Pacman. Look at his stance of moving backwards during the entire fight always looking for that KO at Bradley.

Vargas looked sharp in combinations. He won the exchange every time he let his hands go. His only problem in that fight is he looked intimidated and wasn't aggressive enough. I chalk that up to nerves at the first time in the limelight rather than trouble with trainer. The fact that Morales was constantly telling him he needs to be more confident and aggressive shows that he was getting good advice even if he wasn't listening.

This isn't Morales' first rodeo, and he kept constantly telling Vargas to pick up the pace. If Vargas chose not to listen to him, that's on him.
