That's not true. Dawson hadn't fought at 168 for many years.

In a post-fight interview, Max Kellerman asked Chad Dawson if he would move down to 168 and fight Ward.

In front of the TV audience, with his adrenaline flowing and confidence high after the fight with Hopkins, Dawson wasn't about to say "no".

Later Dawson realized he couldn't easily make 168 and asked for a catch weight against Ward, but Ward (with the backing of HBO) said "no".

Dawson hadn't fought at 168 in 6.5 years, back when he was still a 24 year old prospect. And yeah, Ward rejected a 170lb catch weight during actual negotiations.


After Stevenson KO'd Dawson, he called out Ward as well. He offered a 2 fight deal with the first fight at 168 in Oakland and a possible rematch at 175 in Montreal. Ward rejected it: "The WBA super middleweight champion (26-0, 14 KOs) says Stevenson wont get a shot until he has won some big fights. Same thing he said about Bute when Bute was hot & offered to fight Ward in Oakland. At the same time Ward was talking up a fight with Chavez Jr saying he would be a tough fight. "If he comes to 168 then I think we should see each other. I think that's a mega, mega fight the fans will want to see."

why can ward fight at 160 and not 164? please explain. you opened up the duck-gates so now you have to explain yourself. and i'm sorry but "he was not serious" is not a very good defense of ward's position since he said twice he would fight floyd at 160.

same reason ggg is willing to go 154 for floyd but wont drop a single pound for canelo... most fighters will get drained for floyd, the worst that can happen is that he will outpoint you...

Dude give it up. Floyd is at most 153 lbs.. IMO thats meating half way there. GGG would fight Froch & Chavez JR at 168 but Ward has to be 164?
