Frame-wise, Hopkins was a big MW. He started his career at LHW. But he was also dedicated and lived a clean life and always kept his weight low between fights. He talked in depth with Maxboxing with Doug Fischer before the Trinidad fight about how he had to work to keep his weight low.

Maybe if Ward hadn't taken the last 2 years off he's still have some momentum from the S6. Golovkin just sold over 12k seats in LA vs an unknown fighter. Ward couldn't sell 8k in his own hometown vs the LHW champ of the world. And Golovkin still edged Ward in tv numbers for those respective fights.

Ward was at 173 nearly three weeks before the fight with Paul Smith; getting down that ten pounds would've been a pain in the ass and likely do some damage, but it's not like it'd be impossible.
