It's been over 25 years since Buster Douglas shocked Mike Tyson in Tokyo. I still wonder how big of an event would it have been to have a rematch in Las Vegas right after. Why Douglas fought Holyfield instead of Tyson is a mystery.
How big would a Tyson vs Douglas 2 fight have been?

It is no mystery. Buster got a huge offer from Steve Wynn and he wanted to get away from Don King. Fighters don't care about how big the event is, only how much they're being paid.Comment

Yes, and instead of trying to make the rematch, King tried to take the matter to court and get the decision overturned due to Douglas receiving a long count when he was dropped earlier in the fight.
Douglas was humiliated by Holyfield and interest in the rematch vanished into thin air.Comment

What a disappoint Douglas was as the HW champion. He fought one of the gutsiest, focused and courageous fights against Mike Tyson, only to put no effort into the Holyfield fight. Still, even with Douglas losing badly to Holyfield it would have been nice to see the rematchComment

I think holyfield was just that much betterWhat a disappoint Douglas was as the HW champion. Douglas was 20 pounds overweight ,the Douglas that fought Tyson most likely beats Holyfield with his long jabbing style and excellent footwork in the early 90's ,he was certainly better than a 43 year old Holmes who took Holyfield the distance the night he beat Tokyo Tyson .Comment
