It's okay to be honest, but a lot of the time I feel like we hate on each other, on purpose. And I don't just mean boxing, I'm talking about life in general. We have a reputation of backstabbing each other. It's like we're all lone wolves. I just don't think that mentality will ever help us get ahead. If someone is doing well, we should at least recognize it, and even help out if we can, not throw dirt on the person and do anything it takes to ruin them.

Canelo is younger faster and hit harder no shock there

All the odds favor the younger faster more elusive Canelo against Cotto.

          Kirkland...

Canelo lost to Lara and I had The Trout/Canelo fight a draw. So Canelo's latest opposition shows me that Lupe Pintor is correct about Canelo being "the biggest hyped up fraud in boxing today"

          #KirklandDoe
that drained geale statement came from tito, not me, and as far as you having a draw vs trout and loss to lara for canelo, that is irrelevant since you also had danny winning over herrera... is the power punches right??

tito praises canelo and lupe trashes him, and you rather listen to an old drunk lupe over Tito???

you should look around for the yahoo mexico forums, the hate for canelo there is unreal, but you will also find people there trashing the national soccer team, so like some of you said, latin americans in general cant stand at the success of their paisas, heck you could find argentinians hating on messi... i still remember when our olympic soccer team won the gold medal, you had people discrediting by saying that the games were fixed and our president paid for it...

Well Trinidad is just giving his opinion here, I don't think Cotto really cares, or is hurt by his opinions, I like both Felix and Miguel, Trinidad is one of my favorite fighters of all time but Cotto has made his own name in PR and didn't want anything to do with Trinidad when he was rising on the boxingscene.

I mean Cotto is a Libra he doesn't care what other people do he only cares about what he does, he really never acknowledged Trinidad from the beginning of his own career and he still doesn't.

That's only because Tito opted to embark on the road less traveled by not taking easy fights for a come back.

Unfortunately, I'd have to say yes. From my experience, Cotto has never truly been accepted. He's kind of the "Mayweather" of Puerto Rico, in the sense that it feels like almost everyone wants him to lose. I believe, in some aspects, it all boils down to Tito, too, ironically. Fans here wanted another Tito, and Cotto was the polar opposite. His personality was always a serious one, and this irritated the fans, who, almost automatically, started seeing Cotto as a threat to Tito's legacy. It became the kind of scenario where a new athlete was (and is) castigated because fans can't let go of the athlete that came before him. "How could a guy who isn't as outgoing as Tito outdo him? A guy who thinks he's better than us?" "If he keeps winning, no one will remember Tito." I feel those kind of thoughts have been (and are) in many Puerto Ricans' minds. Another big aspect is just culturally rooted; we don't support each other, preferring to envy and have everyone lose than to see one person win.

Ultimately, if we limit this to boxing, it's the reason why fighters like JuanMa and Verdejo have enjoyed strong support among Puerto Ricans. They were seen like people as "humble" as Tito, fighters whose personalities merited holding the torch. It hasn't played out the way those fans have wanted it to, however. Cotto has been the top fighter on the island for years. In fact, Cotto is even being ranked higher than Tito in the Puerto Rico ATG list by Dan Rafael. That, and the fact Cotto has become Puerto Rico's first four division world champion, could be why Tito is speaking this way. There is no Tito torch anymore, not in the sense of actual boxing. Puerto Rico's torch is now Cotto's torch. That is a tough pill to swallow for Tito, considering his economic troubles. I don't even blame him; I'm just disappointed. I don't think a victory over Canelo would change anything. Not even a victory over Golovkin. It's just the way it'll always be.
