Comments Thread For: Team Mayweather: Ain't Nobody Thinking About Thurman

WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith Thurman (25-0, 21KOs) was hoping to put on an impressive performance this Saturday night to increase his standing in the pecking order of opponents who are pursuing a fight with WBC/WBA full champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

According to Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, Thurman's performance is irrelevant - because he's not being considered as a possible opponent.

    Duh.

Only delusional posters were thinking that Floyd-Thurman would happen in September after Thurman fights Collazo this weekend.

It's to late to really promote his next fight so I think it might be berto or mayfield.

Floyd is showing up in September just to get his career over with.

Although I think Thurman present a threat beating him or anybody really at this point will do nothing for floyds legacy especially just coming off the manny fight.

It has always worked out for Floyd. I remember him announcing the Maidana rematch over twitter around 8th/9th July last year. If Sho can promote an absolutely unnecessary rematch, they'll do a decent job of selling Floyd's last fight as well.

Unless Haymon is looking to protect Thurman further(like he did with only giving him the option of Collazo), It might aswell happen. It's a decent fight.

First of all, Floyd is his own worst enemy. It makes no sense to be attempting to diminish Thurman (by saying he should fight Spence Jr.) and then say "I might fight Mayfield or Berto." Secondly, everyone knows that the only viable options are Brook and GGG, and only GGG is PPV worthy. The only "longshot" for a PPV worthy opponent is Juan Manuel Marquez.

Is this a strategy by the Floyd team? Book the fight late so the opponent does not have enough time to train. It is only 8 weeks till Sep. 12. There is no opponent and no contract....Floyd must already be in some sort of training. Is it Mayfield, Berto or Khan?

Here is an idea for Thurman: How about he actually earns the fight.

Thurman hasn't even fought anyone in the top 5 at welter, he may have not even fought anyone in the top 10 but he deserves a shot at the champ. Come on man.

I don't have a problem with the fight but Thurman needs to stop acting like he deserves the fight cause he doesn't
