Comments Thread For: Porter: Won't Put Career on Hold Like Khan Did For Floyd

Former champion Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16KOs) is hoping to get his hands on Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Porter stunned Mayweather's close friend, Adiren Broner, with a twelve round unanimous decision last month in a "Premier Boxing Champions" main event.

After the match, Porter called for the fight. Mayweather revealed other possibilities in the form of Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield.

    Shawn needs up his team.

Re hire stephen bread man edwards
as head trainer and demote his dad to 2nd.

Start training in philli and get good sparring.
work on basics and hardcore conditioning.

If he gets the floyd call , Edwards is the guy you want on your side.. with edwards shawn has a legit chance

Of course Porter won't, nor does he deserve the shot (over Brook) Kahn's putting his career on hold for Mayweather was just another convenient excuse for not having to endure another humiliating knockout at the hands of an inferior fighter.

Let me also say that I don't think Mayweather has any intention on fighting on September 12. I think he reserved the date just to block Canelo v Cotto from having it. I mean - he just grossed 220 million from his last fight. There's no way he is going to make more than a 1/4 of that for his next fight and no one is looking that lucrative right now - so why bother? Might as well wait til next year and then re-match the winner of Canelo vs Cotto at a 152 catchweight because you know he'd never fight either one at 154.

I agree with this. Edwards is light years ahead of Kenny. I wonder why he was let go by team Porter.

Good that Porter doesn't want to embarrass himself like Khan.

Good on him..... Think he needs to fight Brook again as it was a close fight. Don't think Brook would accept that fight though.
I thought that the his last fight with Broner was going to be a bit too far for him to go as the weight cut.
Think Brook needs another tough fight before he can be linked to Mayweather.

No one should, especially now. There are so many interesting matchups to make at 147, and Porter should not ignore them out of hopes he'll land a mega fight. If it's possible, try and get it. But don't sit around waiting.
