Comments Thread For: Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev Clash on The Horizon?

There are rumblings that a fight, between WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev and WBA super middleweight ruler Andre Ward (28-0, 15KOs), is in the early stages of discussion for sometime in 2016.

Kathy Duva, the head of Main Events (which promotes Kovalev) confirmed to BoxingScene.com on early Friday evening - ''I've had another conversation this week with the people from Roc Nation and it is definitely something that is being discussed and ultimately likely to happen."

That would be a nice fight. Just hope we get zero excuse about HBO or Roc nation etc like we get with the GGG excuses.

This will be a good fight.

However I wanted Ward to get Golovkin first, before moving up and disposing of Kovalev. I hope this doesn't let GGG off the hook if Ward never moves back down in weight.

What Kathy Duva is really saying is that she wants to milk her only HBO cow two to three more times before she sacrifices him (at the demand of HBO, I am sure) to Andre Ward.

As far as what Duva said about Kovalev fighting off HBO in the fall, that won't happen. Kovalev won't be fighting unless he appears on HBO because Main Events can't make any money off of him unless HBO pays them.

With a fair ref, Kovalev will have no problem "disposing" of Ward.
