Comments Thread For: WBO Waits For Mayweather's Decision, Tim Bradley Looms

Less than 24 hours remain for Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs), who has until the close of business on Friday to make a decision regarding the welterweight championship of the World Boxing Organization (WBO). Mayweather captured the title on May 2 from Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather holds the WBC/WBA titles at welterweight, but he also holds the WBC/WBA titles at junior middleweight.

The WBO rules clearly state that a fighter can not hold world titles in multiple weight divisions. To remain the WBO champion at 147, Mayweather must vacate his WBC/WBA titles at 154 - which he hasn't defended since September of 2013.

Stop being such a fan boy, Mayweather hasn't defended the titles in two years. And he's stopping every other fighter from winning them because he has no desire to defend them against true Jr. Middleweights.

Indirectly the WBO is doing the boxing world a favor. Drop the 154 titles or give up the WBO belt. Either way he's going to lose something.

I just told you that Mayweather defended the WBC 154 belt in Sept. 2014. I agree he should drop them. He's cemented his Jr. MW legacy. DLH (former MW titleholder), Cotto (current lineal MW champion), and Canelo (fighting for the lineal MW championship in November).

am i the only one that finds it odd that since 2002 the wbo title has spent 10 years among TR fighters, only 3 boxers outside of TR have held the belt. and right NOW 4 out of the top 5 in the wbo WW ranks, are TR fighters............

But he didn't defend them in 2014, his request to do so was denied. But even if he was granted permission no true boxing fan would consider a fight against a Welter weight Maidana a Jr. Middleweight title defense.

And save the whole anything under 154.1 is Junior Middle Weight argument. Its played out.

He defended the 154 WBC title against Maidana the second time.Ellerbe requested it and the WBC said they were excited he was doing it and Floyd was pissed as ****. Y'all don't remember that?
