TR was not looking for a five fight extension...it was a one fight extension...the Golovkin fight plus another fight for a total of 12Million for Chavez jr. He backed out because he knew he was going to get destroyed and Al didn't want him to come over as damaged goods.

After the Golovkin fight, win or lose, do you honestly believe that Top Rank would've allowed that option to be the last fight? lol

The fight with Sergio Martinez, from what I've read in statements made by Team Chavez Jr, was supposed to be the final fight on the deal; to get that fight, Chavez Jr had to agree to a similar options deal, which led to two additional fights beyond the end of his deal.

Junior NEVER wanted GGG and NEVER wanted Froch, he pulled out of a Cotto fight a few years earlier... was practically FORCED by his Godfather Suliaman face Sergio after TWO years of refusing to fight his mandatory. Lol. Chavez jr is full of it. The deal presented by top rank was for a 1 fight extension. Arum was offering Jr 7mil for the GGG fight. The deal was that he would pay Jr 10mil for his next fight had he won and 5 mil had he lost.

True but also true that if he beat GGG 10 mil for his next fight (maybe even a rematch) would have been pretty cheap.

Sad to say but in boxing most "big fights" are truly left on the table and never occur at all. Of course if you can stretch it out long enough, with enough people clamoring for it long enough you can get a May/paq mega payday. More often you get derailed by the "Fonfaras" of the world.
