You'd be better off asking the people who box for a living or are considering that option. When you have people like Porter saying, "they aim to put on a fight more exciting that Mayweather vs Pacquiao'' it indicates that the event served as a motivator to fellow competitors.

The event reminded people that success in the sport can bring great fame and wealth. Considering a lot of people mention basketball (and US football) detracting from boxing's talent pool because of those reason, the reminded could turn out to be pretty significant in the years to come.

At least, that's how I see it especially given the announcement that Manny will be fully healed enough to fight again possibly in Nov.2015.

Has boxing on a whole suffered .... Not likely, but more and more are inclined to watch boxing on cableTV as opposed to buying PPV's.

I agree with both your posts. If the 5 year wait for this fight wasnt bad enough, we had to endure the gross mishandling of the defeat by Pacquiao's team. I wanted Pacman to win btw but what he and his team diid after the fight, took away the shine for Mayweather.. and as much I dont like Floyd's style, I dont think that's fair.

Another point, for me, boxing has become far too much of a ducking and dodging game. Too many of the fighters out there are avoiding each other in the hope of padding their records against lesser fighters instead of facing the best. It probably has been going on for years so its nothing new but with boxing more accessible now to the media and fans, it's publicised a lot more now. I feel the governing bodies need to change. Force fighters to get in the ring, if they dont, they lose their ranking.
