FLoyd doesnt need to clinch because he stays stays on the outside, Holyfield is a better inside fighter, so he clinches to get on the inside and rip a few shots .

One is exploiting it, the other is putting it to use, completely different.

70 is really not unheard of, but i agree it was excessive in Maidana II. There were 14-18 clinches in the May-Pac (not all instigated by Floyd - some coincidental) bout which is below average for a 12 rounder. I really don't know what people are seeing when they complain about excessive clinching in that fight.

Alexander 'hugged' Maidana 100 times in a 10 rounder. I believe Wlad clinched Povetkin close to 200 times. Now that is excessive.

When he faces a good inside fighter he can't match them, Maidana is not even that good, and the best he could do is clinch.
