  • Comments Thread For: Wilder: Drug Testing is Very Big Deal For Povetkin Bout

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33KOs) is still on course to defend his world title for the second time in September. More than likely his upcoming fight will be a voluntary defense.

The World Boxing Council will issue an order in October - directing Wilder's handlers to begin negotiations for a mandatory defense against Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21KOs) of Russia.

There is a good possibility that Wilder-Povetkin will head to a purse bid. Povetkin's promoter, Andrei Ryabinsky, is one of the few people who are capable of out-bidding Wilder's powerful manager/adviser, Al Haymon.

Wilder is acting like baby...If he wants drug testing, there will be drug testing. But he is making built-in excuses very early.

        Povetkin should sue this idiot.

This shouldn't be a problem. Povetkin wanted Klitschko to accept extra drug testing as well.

Yes it won't be a problem but it does make a bit of a stink!

Wilder, a 6'7" heavyweight with one of the biggest right hands in world boxing is moaning about the testing. It's just annoying. Leave it to your team. Povetkin can smell the fear from moskow! (Tyson voice)

Ahh, Wilder shouldn't do this, or at least not this openly, he make himself out like a bitch. He can have the opinion he has but this unveiled and pretty on based aiming doesn't make him look better. He won't be able to dodge this fight not a chance... I would still pick Wilder though but it's tough to pick 55-45 to Wilder, Wilder showed vulnerabilities last time but Povetkin got a little overrated lately so I wouldn't be so sure that "Povetkin will just run through him".

Yup. This is the second time he's mentioned possible doping.

So he is trying to create a Mayweather Vs Pacquiao publicity stunt, and plant the idea into the fans head that his mandatory is a drug cheat. Good try.

But if it goes to a purse bid and there are no Random drug testing rules in place of whichever commission's territory they're fighting at (which there aren't any, even American ones), then he loses the title for refusing to fight. Povetkin can't make him come to Russia, and Wilder can't make him come to the U.S. However, if Povetkin does agree to fight in the U.S., he still can't force random testing on the fight. If they don't fight for that reason, he gets stripped of his title. Unlike Floyd, he depends on a Title to remain relevant. Nobody cares about fighting Wilder for a payday or for the legacy of beating one of the ATG's (like Floyd). His title is all anyone is after, including Wlad.

Be as it may, Povetkin will probably agree to random testing.
