Comments Thread For: Barthelemy: Not fair to lump all Cuban fighters together

Former super featherweight champion Rances Barthelemy returns to the ring against Antonio DeMarco in a super lightweight tilt that headlines a special Sunday edition of Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions series. This Sunday's fight will air on CBS and take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Cuban fighters have faced criticism in recent years that while their style of boxing is unquestionably effective - it lacks in the type of action that most boxing fans crave. Barthelemy said that he has definitely heard the comments but feels that it is unfair to lump all Cuban fighters together as having the same style.

I guess it's a matter of preference. I respect the so called "Cuban style" but got to admit regarding professional fights this amateur approach is hard to win fans over outside of Miami.

Barthelemy is a Super Talent but he can't have performances like he did vs Arash Usmanee in which he thought talent could get him a easy win and he ended up in a tougher fight than it should have been and you could argue that he lost that fight or at least it should have been a DRAW at the very least

But when he is focused and have everything working the guy is a special talent. DeMarco is a very good test for him, look forward to seeing that fight in a few hours

They don't fight the same way, Gamboa, Ortiz, Barthelemy brothers, Santana, Collado, Barrera, Gonzalez, Savigne, Franco, Socarras, Ramon Luis, Neslan, Luis Garcia, Dorticos, Hernandez just to mention a few, don't fight like Lara, the so call "amateur" label was put by arum when Rigondeaux gave donaire a master class in boxing, and all the new fans ran with it, apparently the Cuban didn't have a chance, the defeat was more embarrassing because all the weight nonito had on GR, 142>125, still a great little boxer won against a bigger good boxer...

I agree there's all kinds of Cuban styles. But post a link for Donaire being 142. That wouldn't make sense, at FW one division up Donaire was 131 and 133 fight night. 133 is his highest published weight.

It was leaked back then, NY doesn't publish the next day weight in but both weight, Guillermo and nonito was leaked the next day, is not a big deal really, nonito always gains 15 to 20 pounds by fight night and we had seen Rigondeaux gaining only 3 or 4 pounds, remember that nonito was starving a little bit at 122 so he will gain more because of that...

So no link, alright. Donaire certainly looked like a giant until he hit 122, but he never came close to rehydrating 20lbs according to published weights. In fact only once rehydrated 10lbs

The following is a resource page for all the publicly issued "rehydration" weights of the sub-heavyweight boxing divisions. Please, bo...
