It's thrown in a more looping fashion than a straight right hand down the pipe. The purpose is to mix up the angle of the strikes in order to keep the opponent off balance and guessing as to where to block punches.
Im not sure you are supposed to dislocate your elbow to throw an overhand right, brah

One of the worst overhand rights I've seen, I mean look at the elbow and angle of his fist. It's one of his problems, he slaps some of his right handed shots.
Ward needs to do a big fight now and do so in a short period of possible.. He isn't some young guy anymore But for the most part neither is the top opposition but he needs to push for another title fight or unification match with the likes of Geale. Ward still looked sharp but doesn't last forever and at the higher weight classes he will lose advantages he once held over smaller opposition.
Does anyone know if they blacked it out in the Bay Area? I went to the fight live but dvr'd it too. It recorded Romeo must die. And my buddies who didn't go didn't get to see it either. Wtf. We live in the bay solano county 40 minutes out of oakland.
Finally watched. He looked good vs a horrible opponent, looked like Ward may have got stunned a bit in the 7th by right. Really not much to take away from this given Smith's level, unpreparedness, and lack of hunger. Smith and is his corner acted like they were there to survive from the get go. Stoppage reminded my of the Andy Kolle fight, headbutt opened a cut in 5th round and Ward targeted it.
If Ward wants to stay at 172 for his next fight, I want to see him face a LHW like Maxim Vlasov or Isaac Chilemba. I don't think Chilemba would be intimidated by Ward and fight hard and push Andre.
If Ward fights at 168, it better atleast be someone decent who's in shape and hungry enough to fight back.

I don't think he was stunned. I think he was just surprised Smith actually landed a clean shot after all those rounds.
