Comments Thread For: Saunders: Andy Lee Coming To an End, I'm Taking Title

WBO world middleweight champion Andy Lee has confirmed he will make a mandatory defence of his title against Billy-Joe Saunders on September 19 at T****nd Park, Limerick.

The Irishman (34-2-1-KO24) beat Matt Korobov to the vacant title in December and was last in action in April when he drew with American Peter Quillin. The fight was a non-title bout due to Quillin's failure to make the weight.

The unbeaten Saunders (21-0-0-KO11) is the British, Commonwealth and European champion after edging a split decision over fellow Englishman Chris Eubank Jr in November, and is relishing the chance to face off with Lee.

Solid matchup. Like both fighters. Lee can give Saunders lots of problems if he remains consistent.

His loud mouth will serve him well if he ever becomes world-level. I truly don't think he's beating Lee though. There's nothing BJS has done that makes me believe otherwise, and he won't be getting a close decision in Lee's backyard. He doesn't have KO power, and he has questionable stamina.

If Saunders puts the work in, he'll get the nod. Sad to say, I just can't see that happening

I like BJS as he is a character but he is so painfully average I can't even see him getting past Lee. I picked him on points vs Eubank Jr but I think Eubank Jr takes a rematch.
He is a 5 round southpaw jab artist.
A solid but nothing special amateur, not a good pro.

Bit more fleet-footed than Lee and a better chin but I don't see what other advantages he has.
Power, experience, jab, timing, accuracy, height, reach, counterpuncher ability, timing etc etc all favour Lee.

Have to make the favourite going into this.

Got to go with Lee, who just seems the all round better fighter of the two. That's not taking anything away from Saunders, just different styles.

              Good fight
