So even if there was a verbal agreement, the written contract should be drafted to render inapplicable any verbal contract.

Still a dumb thing to do though, going around saying there was only a verbal agreement.
Verbal agreements work both ways. Porter agreed to them at 144 IF THEY BOTH weighed that way. Broner can't say well because you said 144 I can do what I want. The verbal contract is void if:

    1) They give him a written contract, that will always take precedent.
    2) The written contract has different terms than the verbal.
    3) Broner comes in over 144 at which point Porter can do what he wants.

Porter has nothing to worry about, come in 147 or they cancel the fight it's that simple.

The catch-weight, the rehydration clause...the fight was a joke to begin with. Now it's just a farce.

              The weigh-in should be interesting.

But If Broner breaks the terms of the contract, and doesn't make 144, then the verbal agreement is null and void.

It's all about what weight Broner is coming in at at this point, and whether Shawn wants to roll the dice on Broner missing weight.

To me, if Porter wanted to blow the whole thing off it would be hard for them to get him legally. Verbal contracts are normally regarding small matters that don't require a bunch of paperwork. Civil disputes, family loans, ect. The mechanics and business dealing of orchestrating a fight are sufficiently complex that a verbal agreement, I'm sure most would agree, doesn't remotely cover the full scope of such a business proceeding, in a court of law.
