Comments Thread For: Andre Ward Vows To Make a Statement With Smith

Paul Smith says he has been offered an "amazing chance" when he takes on unbeaten super-middleweight Andre Ward in America live on Sky Sports this weekend.

The 32-year-old Liverpudlian is facing WBA and WBC champion Ward in a non-title catchweight bout at the City Hall in Oakland, California, which will be the American’s first bout since November 2013.

Ward, 31, has won all 27 of his professional fights – more than half via knock-out – and Smith realises it is a big moment for him.

Will definitely be in the building for this one

Why it took them so long to put up the full fight card is beyond me. First three fights look like trash, but everything else should be worth watching.

Ward is pretty much fighting a nobody. He has to win by KO to look good. If he wins on points against this guy, who cares?

I hope so. Ward needs to beat this man down badly to reestablish himself.

When the cat's away, the mice will play. Andre Ward is back to reclaim his throne. I expect a dominant and entertaining performance despite the long lay-off.

To make a statement, Ward has to KTFO Smith in three rounds or less. If this fight goes the distance, Ward should retire and just do colour commentary on future Boxing on BET telecasts.

This whole site just hates on Ward and GGG and licks Floyd. Ward hasn't fought in over a year did you ever hear of a tuneup fight do you remember he cleaned out whole division easily? Wake up coffee's ready
