Mikkel "The Viking Warrior" Kessler confirmed his retirement in an interview with Euroman. Previously Kessler told members of the media he was retired, but left the door open for what he called a “megafight” in the form of a rematch with Andre Ward or a rubber match with Carl Froch.

Kessler was a good sportsman and boxer. Had a pretty good career. Best of luck to him.

I've always been a big fan of his, shame that Froch rubbermatch and/or Ward rematch never happened. Kessler is one of the few fighters to consistently behave like a decent human being.

Totally agree. Big fan of Kessler; I hope he enjoys and happy and healthy retirement, he's been a fantastic ambassador for the sport over the years.

now that he's retired, i'd love to get a more honest evaluation of the state of his eyesight.

i'm actually surprised kessler took so long to hang them up. there were rumors swirling that he had issues with partial blindness in one eye.


very solid career, but he was not a great by any stretch. solid chin, good power, solid skills, but he didn't have historically significant ability.
