  • Comments Thread For: Mikkel Kessler Officially Announces His Retirement

Mikkel "The Viking Warrior" Kessler confirmed his retirement in an interview with Euroman. Previously Kessler told members of the media he was retired, but left the door open for what he called a “megafight” in the form of a rematch with Andre Ward or a rubber match with Carl Froch.

For a long while Danish media ran stories on how close this megafight was, but it all gradually dried out and now it´s all over. [Click Here To Read More]

He may not be someone who will be greatly remembered in the grand scheme of boxing history, but I'll always remember Mikkel Kessler for the Froch fights and being part of a really good era at super middleweight.

I hope he has a happy retirement.

Now Ward will come out and claim that Kessler is ducking him and that he was willing to travel to fight him.

My thoughts exactly. Not some ATG or anything, but always enjoyed watching him fight and both Froch fights were outstanding.

Great career. Best danish fighter ever. Perfect rolemodel and a true gentleman. I'll always remember those great wins over Mundine, Beyer, Andrade and Froch as well as the superfight with Calzaghe.

I have long been saying that the close loss to Froch away from home was an excellent fight to end a career with.
