Really good point. People who say Haymon would "sacrifice" Lara for Golovkin aren't looking at the bigger picture with PBC, that would mean Santa Cruz vs Lomachenko, Quillin/Jacobs vs GGG, Stevenson/Artur Beterbiev vs Kovalev, etc etc etc. This isn't going to happen since Haymon is competing directly with HBO, not trying to be partners.

I'm not the one who said beating Sergio is the same as beating Jack. I was pointing out it would be GGG moving up 4 weightclasses. I'm just asking GGG to move up one, but that's too much to ask of your favorite fighter. Hey you settle for less, to each their own.Yeah because GGG winning a HW title is similar to Cotto isn't it :derp:
Glad I could show you how beneficial it was for Hopkins career.
Losses to Cotto? Jumping the gun there a bit. Regardless, doesn't matter who wins or loses the idea is to unify. Like Hopkins before him Golovkin has made clear that's his top goal at middleweight.
BTW, everyone thought Oscar lost to Sturm and that didn't effect the Hopkins-Oscar fight one bit.
Canelo isn't anywhere near the star or the fighter Oscar was so your point isn't even relevant. So a win over him won't do nearly as much for GGG as it did for Hopkins beating Oscar, especially after Cotto is done with ginger.Comment

Lara / GGG isn't a option because of Haymon / HBO. That's all there is to it.,
I wish it was a option because I'm a fan of both and think although most likely GGG steam rolls Lara there is a possibility of Laras movement and if he chose to engage more could create some problems for GGG and IMO he'd be the best name on GGG Resume
It's crazy how GGG become the most divisive on this site and the thing is , it's not even about not liking or cheering for him it's one side wanting him to finally step up and challenge himself ( That's where I fall in ) and one side thinking it ok what he's doing because and believing he can't get notable names because he's feared and every other boxer views him as Boogie man and no one will step in the ring ( But can still fight no hopers at least 3-4 times a year )
I like GGG but wouldn't be suprised if I'm never really satisfied with how K2 manages his career. Kiltchko is the most dominant HW but partly because of his style and partly because of his resume there are only a couple fights of his I've actually watched and one of the few fighters I don't really like.
People keep throwing out how Bernard had to sit and wait before he got his opprotunity, I don't even think you could compare the 2, Hopkins was essentially a major threat in his Div with no real backing ( Rigo style ) so names could side step him and it didn't matter. GGG has the full backing of HBO and one of their marquee fighters who they have hung their hat on and they could wield their power I beleive to make more notable fights.Comment

Don't you think most of the onus should fall on HBO fighters , PBC would get HBO fighters more exposure and more $ , why wouldn't K2, Main Events, TR send some fighters for 1 fight over if the possibility ever presented itself.Really good point. Although it'd be a few years late, Donaire vs. Mares would once again become an actual possibility.Really good point.
The onus is on those who have ultimate control (HBO/Haymon). I think the best way to tackle the situation would be to exchange match-ups: GGG fights Jacobs on PBC, while Lemieux faces Quillin on HBO. The other issue would be getting TR/GBP on-board. If every promoter is with it, then we can finally get all of the most sensible match-ups.Last edited by kiaba360; 06-17-2015, 03:43 PM.Comment

He's been willing to move up one weight class. He had a fight with Chavez jr scheduled at 168 last year, attempted to fight Froch at 168 and attempted to fight 6'4 Thomas Oosthuizen at 168 before as well.
Remember, Golovkin turned pro at age 25 he was already fully grown. When Golovkin was 18 years old he was fighting at 140 pounds. When Cotto was 18-20 years old he was fighting at 140 pounds too. Difference is Cotto turned pro, Golovkin remained an amateur. Golovkin moved up to junior middleweight and then middleweight turning pro at 25. Cotto turned pro at 20-21 at 140 and he ended up moving up as he grew (you know how hard it was for him to cut weight) as well, at age 26 he moved up to 147. That's the same time frame has Golovkin. If GGG turned pro when he was 20 he would have started off at welterweight.
It is relevant because he's quite obviously one of the biggest names in the entire sport of boxing. He's certainly more popular than GGG and that's what GGG would be gaining from that fight - exposure - just like Hopkins got with Oscar so the point is perfectly valid.Canelo isn't anywhere near the star or the fighter Oscar was so your point isn't even relevant. So a win over him won't do nearly as much for GGG as it did for Hopkins beating Oscar, especially after Cotto is done with ginger.Comment

Because HBO wants their fighters fighting on HBO, obviously. Why would a network want its stars fighting on another network? HBO wants to be known as the best place to watch boxing.Comment

Sure sounds good, but highly unlikely HBO puts up big money on GGG hence the tomato cans hes fightn. K2 doesnt seem to be making an effort to spend too much on their own guy either. If HBO-K2 was serious, they would secure him the biggest fights out there. Instead it seems theyre lookinh for a handout and waiting for other teams to make an offer. If HBO wouldn't be willing to step aside for Stevenson-Kovalev, what sense is there in expecting them to step aside for Golovkin-Lara, a fight that delivers far less money while also being a bad style matchup for the star that they're trying to build?
Golovkin is signed to an exclusive deal with HBO, HBO seems committed to putting Golovkin out as often as possible (four times a year, regardless of how ****ty the opposition), and HBO is increasing the amount of resources that they are willing to put behind Golovkin (Golovkin's last fight had total fighter payouts of nearly $2m).
Looking at things honestly, logic would have K2 call Lara's management team and state "We have a date on HBO for September/October and we're willing to pay [X] as the purse for the fight; is that a fight that Lara wants?".
K2 hasn't made that move yet, and will likely not make that move at any point ever; Heiland and Johnson will sign to fight each other, K2 will pick off another non-entity as an opponent, and the Golovkin hype machine will try to sell that fight as some epic test for their wrecking machine, as Golovkin goes on to crush another can.Comment
