Comments Thread For: Top Rank Prez: Verdejo Will Be Champion in 12 Months

New York - Felix Verdejo’s exciting decision victory over tough Ivan Najera is exactly what his handlers wanted from the young Puerto Rican lightweight star. They wanted him to look good but also wanted him to get experience in a longer ten round fight.

“He needed rounds,” said Top Rank President Todd Duboef told BoxingScene.com “He needed to get off the stool in round 8, round 9, and round 10 because he needs that experience and know how to reach when he can’t just knock the guy out. I’m so glad Najera was there and didn’t go away because he needed it for experience.”

I wonder when Bob will start short changing Verdejo and Crawford?

Felix can win a title now but they need to let him heal that hand the right way or it can be a big issue

Pedraza and Verdejo will hold down the fort in the coming years.

No one, and I mean NO ONE, builds up fighters the way Top Rank does. I remember reading an article about Floyd and Top Rank when he was working his way up the ranks and they just have this thing down to a science.

I'd favor Verdejo out of all 3 of those belt holders. Gaining the WBO belt will be good but I'd like to c him unify with Perez before moving up. TR has the tendency to rush guys through the weight classes...

This is where the doubt, the questions about the pamper rout come in. He looks good against low quality, but Bey might outbox him, slow and ugly and Linares might catch him late. He beats a name first, not old, not small, not handicapped, or he goes in blind. Untested.
