  • Comments Thread For: Felix Verdejo Drops, Dominates Najera For Decision Win

The Theater, Madison Square Garden, New York City - In a battle of undefeated lightweight prospects, Felix Verdejo (18-0, 13KOs) made his HBO debut with a ten round unanimous decision over game Ivan Najera (16-1, 8KOs). The scores were 100-88, 100-88, and 99-89.

Verdejo started with a good jab from the distance, as Najera was coming forward with pressure but staying smart with his hands up. In the second round, Najera started letting his hands go and Verdejo was willing to oblige his request by firing back with the harder, more accurate punches. In the third, Najera continue to coming forward with pressure and was eating good jabs and check hooks.

The check hooks were nice but he was getting caught whenever they exchanged. Verdejo is going to have to be one of those guys who box on the outside the entire match. Heavy handed fighters who are more skilled will drop him if he exchanges.

He young doe.....but seriously, he still learning. I hope at some point he gets a hold of a world renowned trainer so he can step it up to the next level. He has the goods but still needs work to do in the defense department!

stop hating he s young and still learnig. This was pretty good fight with a legit oponent. No like canela who fought 40 tomato cans before steping in the ring against a good fighter.

He fought a guy that wasn't even a real lightweight.

Decent performance by verdejo but he needs to improve the defense and learn to attack the body, too much head hunting. The check hook is very good but he should throw more than one punch at a time.

Najera is a legit fighter, good chin and decent punch.

You mean the same guy who weighted 147 pounds tonight?

By 22 Canelo had arguably beat Trout, and months later fought Mayweather.
