One thing you have to respect Al Haymon for!

Just how crazy PBC fight purses are right now.
Erislandy Lara
Purse Opponent
$135,000 Paul Williams
$40,000 Freddy Hernandez
$202,500 Vanes Matirosyn
$175,000 Alfredo Angulo
$270,000 Austin Trout*
$1,000,000 Saul Alvarez
$1,000,000 Delvin Rodriguez
I can see someone making an argument that Lara had been underpaid, but $1mill for Delvin Rodriguez when you just made $1mill for Alvarez? And look at Robert Guerrero get paid $1mill for a club fighter who was only paid $80k. Then keep in mind Haymon (per that article which is what GB's lawsuit is based on), is getting 20% of each of his overpaid fighter's purses.
Al made himself $400,000 on two fights nobody wanted to see.Comment

Of course Haymon gets his fighters top money because he gets a big piece of that money. He runs PBC and is in charge of how much they make and the more they get, the more his percentage works out to be. He is not doing this out of the goodness of his heart, he is doing it to pad his own bank account.
But there is ABSOLUTELY NO conflict of interest going on there at all.Comment

I REALLY hope this is the case and if it is I'm REALLY glad to hear that.
Most athletes don't know what to do with money and they don't seek professional help because they assume the professionals will rip them off. These guys typically hire one of their friends from back in the day to manage their money and these friends are typically seriously unqualified to handle it.Comment

BINGO!
His fans seem to forget that, though. Promoters also do not get a cut of a fighter's purse. Promoters arrange and promote the fight and they are the ones who actually pay the fighter who then pays his manager and 'advisor' and the other people who are supposed to work for the fighter as part of his team... trainer, gym facilities, physiotherapists, etc...
A fighter signs a contract with a promoter. The promoter is basically his boss. A manager and advisor sign a contract with a fighter, and the fighter is essentially their boss. Except in Haymon's case where he controls everything about a fighter's career once they sign with him. So he is not really a manager, he is not really an adviser.Comment

I don't have a problem with what Al Haymon is doing right now, the fighters are getting paid. The fights are on regular t.v.networks, and the match ups have been decent, there has been a couple of fighters that I would like to see fight better opponent's but overall it's been a solid year of boxing this year.Comment

As corrupt and dodgy as he seems to be...one thing that can not be denied is the fact that the man pays his fighters extremely well!Comment
