  • Comments Thread For: Martin Murray Eyes DeGale, Groves, Froch Showdowns

MARTIN MURRAY aims to punch his way to the top after moving up to the super-middleweight ranks.

The St Helens fighter challenged for world titles at middleweight three times and now wants to mix it with the cream of the crop in the 168lbs division.

And he doesn’t have to look far for potential opponents with fellow Brits James DeGale, George Groves and Carl Froch in the top 10.

Murray Vs Froch would be a war for the ages.

Not really interested in any of those fights. Murray is a level below and should stay at middleweight

Murray doesn't hit hard enough to trouble those guys so he would need to suddenly start throwing a thousand punches

Let's put is this way. Any combination of fights between Groves, DeGale and Froch is bigger money than a fight with Murray.
But, at the same time those 3 fighters, even if they make those fights, couldn't/wouldn't want to keep fighting each other.
Murray is British, he has fought for a world title 3 times, and interestingly, he is claiming that he'll have more power at 168 not less.
I'd like to see any fight involving Murray and those others but probably he needs to go and fight a contender from another country before getting a fight with another Brit. Chavez anyone?

You'd put him straight in with the best super middleweight in the world?

I don't think he would be totally exposed. I think he'd be a live dog. But that wasn't what I said.

              What about Ward?

Ward? Haven't you heard? Chavez Jr is the best at Super Middleweight!

Not hating on Murray, but how is a guy who had zero power at 160 gonna mix it with guys like DeGale and Stieglitz let alone the top tier guys such as Ward and Froch, ok he's tough and will be considered a stubborn mo****a to shift, but I just can not see him having any more of an impact than Hearn's whipping boy Smith. Maybe they can feed him to some young up and comer on his way up through the stable, use him as a stepping stone. I really hope they don't make DeGale or Groves vs this guy, I don't even see it as a decent homecoming fight for the newly crowned DeGale.

Its a question of matchmaking. Murray is a name yet probably beatable for Chavez as he adjusts to SM. Whereas Chavez is good money for Murray and a possible Chavez scalp will make future fights with the other Brit super middle weights more attractive.
