Comments Thread For: Calderon: Pedraza is Better, Verdejo Better Promoted

While he doesn’t get the same praise as his contemporaries Felix Trinidad and Miguel Cotto, Ivan Calderon is likely a Hall of Famer and one of the best boxers to come out of Puerto Rico in this era. Calderon had an interesting take on the two young Puerto Rican prospects who fight this weekend, Felix Verdejo and Jose Pedraza.

Calderon says Top Rank is doing well with their young prospect in Verdejo, who returns on Saturday night against undefeated Ivan Najera at The Theater in New York's Madison Square Garden.

Lol, but not really. Pedraza is still on the way up. He earned his zero and is still learning. Klimov is a good test, quick and active. Pedraza needs to show improvement, acquired skill. He is not as naturally talented as Verdejo, so he has to work harder, but a bum? I just had to say something, we'll see Saturday.

Ivan sounds off about being overshadowed

Not sure I'd agree Verdejo looks more talented

            prospects

In PR, Emmanuel Manny Rodriguez and Felix Verdejo are the top two prospects right now. Rodriguez have defeated MUCH better opponents than Verdejo with brutal KO'S, but Verdejo's promotion in PR is very insane. The top title contender in PR are Pedraza and the Arroyo brothers McJoe and McWilliams.

I actually asked this question on social media. Many post about Verdejo non about Pedraza, although he did have his time to shine in Showtime and looked average to me

Salvador Sanchez looked so beatable, but he just kept winning. He wasn't a big puncher and he moved more than the average Mexican. His experience showed late in most of his championship fights. Too bad you guys can't see 15 rounders anymore, but Pedraza kind of reminds me of him. He needs to move on his feet more and up his punch output, but he has the tools.

Guys from his weight class are under appreciated. Im with u though, Verdejo looks to be the better fighter to me as well.
