WBC Mandates Another Shot For James Toney: What’s it Really All About?

Beats a nobody named Booker.
Gets WBA title shot.
Tests positive for steroids and is banned by WBA for 2 years.
Beats Guinn, who was 1-2-1 coming into the fight.
Gets WBC title shot.
Comes in at a record high 237, looks terrible, loses the fight clearly.
Gifted with a draw.
And is now guaranteed ANOTHER immediate WBC title shot after Maskaev.

Toney was ranked highly upon entering the division because he was the man at Cruiser. He's been a legitimate top ten Heavyweight for 3 years.

This is more that can be said for Maskaev, or Golota when he got 3 consective title shots.

Golota received three shots because he draws a ****load of money. He can sell out the entire Garden or any arena in Chicago. The reason he was given three shots in a row is because he is a money machine, which is rare among any of the heavyweights who cant draw flies to ****.

Maskaev has been undefeated for three years, won ten straight fights, won eliminators and hold a KO over the champ, which more than deserves a shot in my book. Everyone forgets that Maskaev should have been given the shot in the first place, but was skipped over for Toney because of money. Rahman has not avenged a single loss on his record, but neither has Toney. The WBC mandated Toney fight the winner because Tarver is willing to go to heavy to fight him if and only if Toney has a major title.

Since being brutally KO'd 3 times in 5 fights by Kirk Johnson, Goofi Whittaker and Corey Trex Sanders, he's beaten one Heavyweight that would be considered a top 30 Heavyweight, and that's Sinan Samil Sam; and Sam (the year before) was beaten by Krasniqi and JC Gomez. Everyone outside of that has been outright Tomatoe Cans.

His KO of Rahman came 8 years ago, and getting stopped by the guys mentioned above since then really quashes the idea that he can ride on one fight that happened when Clinton was still in the White House.

The fact that he's ranked anywhere near #1 in the WBC is more suspect and reeks of hypocricy more than anything in this article.

If winning ten fights in a row makes someone deserving of a title shot, guys like Tye Fields, Henry Akinwande, and Leo Nolan should be getting title shots.

I can see how people question the motives of the WBC for letting Toney get another shot at the winner, but anyone who questions that and doesn't question why Oleg's getting a shot is standing atop a double standard.
Maskaev has done nothing to deserve this shot.

Maskaev sucks, we all know that. If Rahman was offering him a shot in order to avenge a loss it would be one thing, but Maskaev as a mandatory is complete bull**** like Bozo says. With that said, Toney doesn't deserve the shot either. If the WBC's rankings are so ****ed up that they have Maskaev and Toney as the #1 and #2 guys, then they are not getting the picture. There are plenty of good heavyweights out there in line for a shot. Toney and Maskaev are NOT those guys.

My point was that neither Maskaev or Sam had any business being put in an emliminator in the first place.

If the point is that the WBC has a history of making suspect decisions then I'd agree. I just don't like how some people on here are selective about what they are outraged by.
