The WBC has once again declared that James Toney somehow deserves a mandatory shot at the organization’s heavyweight title. [details]
WBC Mandates Another Shot For James Toney: What’s it Really All About?

I'm a huge fan of Toney, but enough is enough. He's had two shots already in this division and came up with nothing. He really doesn't deserve another shot. If he fights Rahman again, I'd pick Rahman anyway. At least Rahman has self-control and can come in good shape. Toney has become a disgrace to the sport over the last two years. -
I didn't support Golota getting multiple shots for getting an alleged "draw" with Byrd and supposedly "beating" Ruiz. I had Golota beat Ruiz by a point with the two bull**** point deductions. I really though Ruiz was gonna get robbed, thank God he didn't that night. I definitely had Byrd winning by a wide margin in the Golota fight 116-112. I mean if you go back and actually watch that fight, Golota hits a lot of arm and back of the head while Byrd repeatedly nails Golota in the face. Judges suck these days. But back to the point. Golota didn't deserve a shot at Ruiz nor Brewster, and Toney does not deserve another title shot until he wins another meaningful fight. At this point, though, he probably can't.Comment

Can't let this topic go, but just to show you all how UNBIASED I really am, I have been calling bull**** at the WBC's decisions for over a year now. Forcing Corrales into a rematch with Castillo because of "controversial circumstances" in the first fight is garbage. Forcing Taylor to defend against Wright all of a sudden (AFTER TWO FIGHTS WITH HOPKINS) is bull****. And even though I'm a Corrales, Taylor, AND Toney fan, this is ****ing bull**** that he gets another shot. The WBC is full of ****, and I don't just decide that when my guys get screwed over. If you're just now realizing that the WBC is full of ****, you are a Toney hater and a biased fight fan.Comment

I always had the most respect for the wbc but after reading this article, this is just a joke! They want Toney because it gives them, The WBC, the most money potential! This is just bull****. Hopefully someone does sue them again and finally put them down for good.Comment

In boxing he won the Ruiz fight, but lost the drug test.
The second fight was officially declared a draw...so he was "as good" as the champ. The "champ" got the belt thrown his way.
Rahman was in the shape of his life in the Toney fight, toney was not...
Rahman has beaten Lewis (by KO!!), when lewis came into the ring out of shape. Lewis came back to win.
A huge toney fan?...I wonder....Last edited by KJ; 04-01-2006, 01:03 PM.Comment

The bottom line is that dispite all of the crying about Toney's shape, that Toney Rahman fight was a good busy Heavyweight fight.
There were 1500+ punches thrown.
And no matter what anyone thinks of the WBC mandating a rematch, it's nowhere near as bad as Oleg Maskaev securing a #1 ranking and a title shot.Comment
