  • Comments Thread For: Walters Wants Lomachenko Next; Arum Eager To Make It

NEW YORK – Nicholas Walters was within earshot Wednesday when promoter Bob Arum said he wants to make a Walters-Vasyl Lomachenko unification fight in October or November.

Jamaica’s Walters is all for it. Colombia’s Miguel Marriaga is an undefeated, heavy-handed challenger, but Walters (25-0, 21 KOs) expects to knock out Marriaga (20-0, 18 KOs) in their “Boxing After Dark” main event Saturday in The Theater at Madison Square Garden (HBO; 10 p.m. ET).

Would be a real turn up for the books if this Marriaga guy did a job on Walters...incidentally for people that don't know this, the guy apparently beat Walters before, in the Olympics.

Edit - I should specify, qualification for the Olympics.

2008 2nd America´s Olympic Qualifier participant at featherweight in Guatemala City, Guatemala

Lost to Miguel Marriaga (Colombia) 9-14

I hope Walters doesn't overlook Marriaga. First Marriaga, then bring on Lomachenko vs Walters. But, if there's an upset bring on Lomachenko vs Marriaga.

Hopefully it happens in October so the winner can get another fight before the year ends. In case Walters vs. Marriaga ends early, then why not September? lol

Why couldn't Uncle Bob have this mindset in 2010 when we all wanted to see Gamboa-Lopez. :durr1:

        "Marinate it!"

This is just a really really good fight.

Both top fighters, both top guys.

            It has to happen.

Happy to hear that Bob brushed off marination.

This is a completely different story, that result means nothing.

Marriaga needs to remember that this isn't the amateurs and Walters isn't on the level of the dudes that he has been fighting, he's a higher caliber powerhouse. I expect Marriaga to give Walters some things to think about but Walters should be able to take him out after some warmup rounds.

Sounds like this fight will happen later on in the year. I think Loma wins easily.
