  • Comments Thread For: Photos: Martin Murray, Matchroom Presser in London

A press conference was held where it was officially announced that Martin Murray has signed a promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing and will make his debut for his new promoter at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Friday June 26, live on Sky Sports.

Murray discussed his future plans as he boxes in England for the first time since December 2013, and he joins a stellar cast of Merseyside stars as World-rated Super Middleweights Callum Smith and Rocky Fielding face acid tests, with Smith meeting former European champion Christopher Rebrasse and Fielding tackles tough Texan Brian Vera, while Tony Bellew meets the experienced Czech Lubos Suda as he closes in on a mooted autumn World title clash with IBF king Yoan Hernandez.

“I'm delighted to sign for Matchroom and am so excited about the future with them and Sky Sports,” said Murray. “I've been in major fights all over the World against Felix Sturm in Germany, Sergio Martinez in Argentina and Golovkin in France but now I feel it's time that I had those major fights in the UK.

Lmao, is this guy high on crack. Sturm and Maravilla in the UK ? Who does he think he is PBF ? Their is a reason you fought them in their countries, they're the biggest stars of theirs back home. How many fans has this guy got ! Fighting on undercards pre world title fight pretty much means your following is relatively poor.

This guy is gonna aim for a DeGale fight back home in the UK, and still isn't gonna be the draw, not that DeGale is either last time his promoter went to purses he lost to Andre Dirrell' promoter, this is the same Dirrell who has less fans than Ward.

Hearn knows how to attract the english casual shows, he is always able to make most arenas full, I know for a **** he get the people interested in Murray next fight, he'll put Joshua in the card lol.

Is that an admission you acknowledge Geale has issue with making 160, let alone 157 ? And I was beginning to believe Cotto's victory over Geale was a notable, how wrong was i !

Cotto likely offered that fight to Murray at that weight, but Murray told him where to go. Murray took GGG into the latter unlike Geale, their would have been more kudos for Cotto defeating Murray than Geale in the manner he did. Knowing how Cotto and Roach think and work, it sounds plausible doesn't it ?

Cotto won't fight Murray ! He only fights complete tomato's like Geale or Big names for big money like Canelo . He wouldn't dare to venture into the coal mines to face the blue collar , working mans champ ; Martin Murray ! I love the f..king guy !
