As far as the "not the words of a warrior" business...I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that boxing is a brutal sport where warriors often wind up broke and brain-damaged. At a certain point in a figher's career, the warrior spirit should be tempered with business acumen.
Firstly I feel that type of attitude is somewhat reminiscent of ignorant casual fans who don't even understand the concept of what goes with a CW.

Several have credited Cotto with his performance. Ok, great, he did look great. But that brings us back around to we may never know how he would have fared vs a healthy hundred percent Geale, as clearly cw's have been proved to have an unnatural, unhealthy effect on performances, this for me can be attributed to Geale's poor showing and abnormal, uncharacteristic punch output and generally all round abject performance.

Again I couldn't agree with you more regarding warriors can end up maimed, broke etc, hence the reason Danny broke his balls trying to make weight and possibly quit due to worry he could end up maimed. His performance was not unusual if you take into account all the intangibles, it is a known fact he struggles to make 160, let alone 157, a weight he has not seen in nearly a decade. If made an error believing he could be competitive at the weight, or simply his fans made an error believing he could be competitive. I would like to believe he never intended to quit, but have no issue if the stresses and concerns over the shots slipping his defence alarmed him into quitting.

Like I said, Cotto's victory is an hollow one and not one to be trumpeted from rooftops due to his demands, had he have defeated a 160 Geale in the way he did I would have been wowed, unfortunately his own victory was tainted, fair enough I can tell he enjoyed it, obviously it leads right to a big fight, he gets a cash out fight himself next versus Canelo on ppv, he deserves it for his victories over Geale and Martinez, but neither of those wins came without huge question marks, can he beat an healthy competitive Canelo ? I wish him all the luck in the world, and hope he can soundly beat him without being questioned afterwards as I do now, but I hold my reservations. I believe he will be considered favourite over Canelo over outcomes of his last two, yet as I said before under closer observation and scrutiny those victories although unquestionably his, have surrounding issues that make him appear more devastating than he should be credited for. Lets try to remember this is the same Cotto who was soundly defeated by Trout only four fights previously.

Thanks for the very polite insult ("somewhat remniscent of ignorant..."). I'm always interested in what other fighters have to say (based on their own experiences) as a complement to the insights of keyboard pundits.

I really don't think we're that far apart here. I agree that there is a limit to what we can glean from this victory. Don't think I've forgotten the Trout fight either. Great fighters sometimes rebound from poor performances, though. As I said earlier, we'll know a lot more about the Cotto-Roach combination once the Canelo fight happens. We'll know more about how much of Cotto's recent successes can be attributed to the change in the corner, and how much can be attributed to prudent matchmaking.
