And that was a stand alone bout with no ppv replay from the week before.

The haters are going to squirm with this one.

The Cotto vs Canelo bout will never get as ripe as it is now

For the record the fight was PPV here in Australia, there were a fair few packed pubs, full of disappointed people like me

        I always laugh when the "numbers" argument comes up. It is fun though. Here's my take;

Cotto has been in a total of 10 PPV's, two of which are in the top 10, two he was a co-headliner, eight he was the headliner. When ever he fights on a cable network he averages over 1.5 million viewers. Cotto has sold far more PPV's and he is also paid more then Canelo per fight.

Canelo has been in only three PPV's, one of which is in the top 10 (second most viewed PPV of all time) one he was a co headliner, and two he was the headliner. He hasn't been braking the 1 million view network TV mark as long as Cotto has, and he gets paid significantly less per fight.

Of course Cotto has more PPV appearences. Which is only due to the fact he's old. Canelo is only 24 and has already headlined PPV many times something Cotto never did at that age. And Canelos TV ratings, attendence numbers and PPV buys in comparable fights all dwarf anything Cotto has ever done in his career and surpass anything he's done during this span for Canelo. In conclusin Cotto wins the lifetime achievement award he's older his career is coming to an end but the numbers prove right now Canelo is a bigger star and box office draw then Cotto is or has ever been. If anyone is the A side it's Canelo not Cotto.

If Canelo vs Alvarez happens this year, this will be boxing highest grossing year of all time and highest amount of PPV's sold, correct me if i'm wrong. Mayweather vs Pacquiao, Canelo vs Cotto, Mayweather's last fight. That's looking like a good 6-7 million PPV's sold in one year, right in between that. If Cotto/Canelo does something like 1.5mill, and Mayweather's last fight does 1.5 mill, that's easily 7 million PPV's in one year.

              I'm a Cotto fan,

I believe right now Canelo has the edge in popularity, but lets be honest his stadium tickets sell for $10.00. The argument that he is still young and can surpass Cotto's PPV numbers in the future is speculation because if he looses another big fight it could be the end of his star power. He has a bigger fan base because there are more Mexicans then there are Puerto Ricans on this planet. As for GGG the guy cant tie neither Cotto or Canelos shoe laces in terms of popularity. Cotto vs Geale did great numbers considering all the other major sporting events saturation on that Saturday including earlier boxing on free tv and not to mention it had no supporting under card.

LMAO. wow facts are lost on you huh? Cotto's first PPV was 6 years after he turned pro, which he was the headliner, Cotto was 29-0. Canelo's first PPV was 8 years after he turned pro and it had to be against a PPV giant, Canelo was 42-0. Oh by the way Cotto was 26 for his first PPV. Cotto turned pro in 2001, Alvarez turned pro 4 years later in 2005, yet it took Alvarez 6 years to co-headline a PPV after Cottos first PPV. Not to mention Cotto didnt need a star to launch him like Alvarez did, with the exception of the Judah fight Cotto actually did better PPV numbers than both Mayweather and Pac until they're stardom was catapulted by De La Hoya bouts.

Now If we add up all three PPV's for Canelo we get a total of 2,885,000.
Now lets add only two of Cotto's 10 PPV's; Mayweather and Pac, we get a total 2,750,000. Lol get it yet?

Cotto also holds the record for most tickets sold at MSG, also most sell outs, to which no fighter comes even close, not even Mohammed Ali. And they dont charge $10 a ticket.

Also dont forget Cotto gets paid more per fight than Alvarez does, and in that equation, the fighter that gets paid more will always get paid more.

In closing, just to demonstrate that Canelo hasnt even sniffed what Cotto has done, here are some interesting facts:
Mayweathers first PPV took 9 years after turning pro, he didnt brake the 400k mark until his fourth PPV aganst DLH.

Manny Pacquiao's first PPV took 10 years after turning pro, he didnt brake 400k until his seventh PPV, he didnt pass 400k until he fought DLH.

Oscar De La Hoya's first PPV was only 3 years after turning pro, but it did take him 4 PPV's to get over the 400k mark.

Miguel Cotto's first PPV was 6 years after he turned pro, he hit the 400k mark on his second PPV, surpassed 400k on his third PPV both of which he was the headliner.
