Freddie Roach, trainer of WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33KOs), denies the notion that his fighter is being protected from a unification with WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs).
Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to Cotto's WBC title. But Cotto is going in another direction. He is likely heading into a fall mega-fight with Mexican star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on HBO Pay-Per-View.

Back in October GGG made the fight with Rubio to be the mandatory for the opportunity that Cotto got from the WBC to fight Martinez. When Cotto made that deal with the WBC he understood that *after one optional fight, he then had to fight the winner of Rubio/Golovkin sometime this year. Cotto made that deal with the WBC in order to get the opportunity against Martinez. Or else Martinez would have probably fought somebody else or fought Golovkin. *Now that Cotto has to live up to that arrangement he is not being honorable. He is backing out because he is being a diva. He fights Geale and doesn’t fight the winner of Golovkin/Rubio. So what does that say about Cotto’s word.Comment

Cotto has a shot to beat GGG. I think he could do it. My money is on GGG, but it could get competitive. It sucks balls that people steer clear of a fighter who everyone thinks is God. You'd think that someone would want to teach him a lesson.
I'm cool, though, if everyone agrees that the winner of Canelo/Cotto has to fight GGG. As it should be. If you fight above 154, you sir are a middleweight.Comment

How can Lucas Matthysse move up fight twice at 147 and have a better resume than somebody like Paullie who has been fighting there much longer? But people would say that Lucas has more impressive wins than Paullie. Bottom line is the bum eater has shown interest to move up to 168 to fight Froch and Cahvez jr, but when Ward said HBO is trying to force feed us the bum eater his team didn't say shyt. Have you ever wondered why ggg hasn't ever shown interest to fight Ward? The Mayweather if the 168! Could it be because he HAS zero NONE no advantage over Ward? NONE so he calls out little dudes wanting to fight Floyd who came in at 146 his last fight. By that logic he should move up 13-14 pounds or meet Kovalev or Stevenson in the middle.Comment
