I'm a Cotto fan and would actually prefer it if he dropped the belt and fought Canelo at 154. He has admitted what the scales have shown: he's not a true middleweight.
Where I disagree with you, though, is that while I think dropping the belts would put a halt to credible criticism, it would not stop the criticism from the haters on sites like this one. They would still accuse him of running from GGG.Comment

Well the reasonable boxing fans would stop criticizing but you are right, this is nsb and some will still carry on as normal.I'm a Cotto fan and would actually prefer it if he dropped the belt and fought Canelo at 154. He has admitted what the scales have shown: he's not a true middleweight.

Well he has no one to blame but himself. If he couldn't make the weight he should have never agreed to the catchweight.
Also any fighter who puts on 25 lbs in one night, is going to come out slow, out of shape, and will be unable to take body shots.
I remember saying this to people who would get mad at Chavez Jr for gaining 20+lbs on fight night. It amazes me how few people (except his last fight) would ever go to the body with him. Had Andy Lee gone to the body more, Chavez Jr would have folded.Comment

Geale looked slow and drained. Anyone making excuses for Cotto, Cotto has gone at length about how going down 2 pounds for Manny was rough on his body, so, therefore, he knows going 3 was rough on Geale. this is indisputable.
He took what advantage he could get... And it really adds an asterisk to the win. GGG fought a Geale that had to make 160. Cotto fought a Geale that had to make 157. They both ended things in similar fashion. But GGG's win is more impressive because he didn't stack the deck.Comment

Cotto has complete control over his career. If he doesn't get the weight he wants because of the WBC he will just dump it and they can get 3% from some bummy purses or 3% from Cotto's purses.Comment

So "looking more impressive" after purposely draining him (something Cotto himself admitted weakens the opponent, after having experienced it first-hand) yet it still took him 4 rounds to get him out....GGG fought Geale at the limit...had him out in 3Cotto is smart to take a voluntary and test the waters. He is trolling GGG at this point by looking more impressive against a common opponent.
Leftovers? So, is GGG going after a small/out of prime Cotto who just happens to be Manny's, Floyd's, Trout's and Plasterito's leftovers?
I thought "wars" meant a fighter was "shot" or "shopworn?" So, are you suggesting GGG is a warrior for going after a "shopworn" ex 140lb champ?
Fck outta here rookie.
It's been clarified that GGG is after unification and Cotto just happens to hold a belt, you can rest assured should Canelo defeat Cotto (no easy task), then GGG's team will have no need for Cotto nor mention his name any longer...
With that being said, it's ok to disagree...I understand your passion for Cotto given the PRican representation and what not, but to get upset to the point to where you have to resort to cursing and making the (incorrect) assumption that I'm a rookie simply because I have a different point of view, is unnecessary.Last edited by livershot73; 06-08-2015, 02:47 PM.Comment
