Comments Thread For: Video: Golovkin and Loeffler Discuss Cotto, Froch, More

Bill "Two Scoops" Emes catches up with WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, and his promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, to discuss a future fight with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. They also touched on Cotto's knockout win over Daniel Geale.

Cotto retained his World Boxing Council middleweight world title with a crushing victory over Geale. Cotto knocked down Geale twice in the fourth round before referee Harvey Dock stopped the bout at 1:28 of the fourth.

Golovkin seconds what I just said. Gelae didn't look drained or different t all on the fight. Cotto (and GGG too) are just in a different level than Geale. Simple as that

GGG and Loeffler were being diplomatic. As I saw it, Geale looked as weak as a kitten - at times he wasn't even able to keep track of where Miguel was; however, it may well have been that Geale would not have fared much better had he not had to make 157. That we will never know thanks to Freddie and Miguel. So now the clock is running, and the question is, "Just how long will it be before Cotto fights GGG?" If last night's fight against Geale means much of anything, then Cotto should fight GGG next. I'm doubtful that Miguel wants any part of GGG - ever.

Loeffler's saying Froch/Golovkin would be HBOppv now (if held in the US)?!

If that's the case, Froch & Hearn would be smart to have Golovkin take another fight in early September, raise his profile a little more then take on Golovkin in Vegas in December.

Even better if they had Golovkin fight DeGale in London in September to raise his profile in the UK, otherwise Lara in San Antonio. Froch could take a tune up fight on the same date in Nottingham to help hype up the December fight. GGG isn't fighting any other MW title holders in 2015.

Interesting to hear Tom bring up Peter Quillin's name as well.

Carl's supposed to make his decision sometime this week, so we'll see.

If I were a Matty's kid, or a typical peasant... I could post this:

"GGG looked scared though... Nervous smile and a lot of gulping doe. Watch his adams apple doe...GGG is shook."

See how easy it is to see what you NEED to see?

            Silly peasants.

The day after.... A day in which peasants begin to move the goal post in order to feel less salty.

"Ok, he beat Geale doe but... Can he beat Wlad doe????!"

              Silly peasants...

I love GGG but no fighter is unbeatable is they continually step up and Golovkin's time will come for an L. I see De Gale as a considerable risk - its just the size difference. If you're gonna take a risk it might as well be against someone who brings name recognition and money. So that rules out Quillen really too. I think GGG - Froch could do 400,000 PPV between HBO and Sky in England plus a 20,000 gate - that should bring in several million for Froch and 1.5/2 million for GGG.

Interesting tweet from Hearn - so for him to say that presumably he has the green light from Froch. Can't really understand the delay unless there are some negotiations going on in the background - and if that was true why would Loeffler say he has heard nothing from Hearn.
