Catchweights have been around a long time, but they were used in exception, and were not a part of most standard fight negotiations.

We all know who made the weight an aspect that had to be discussed during a fight negotiation...... boxing used to have divisions.

I am a Cotto fan but without the catch weight his win would look better. But do not forget Pacquiao used this and Mayweather used the catch weight against Canelo. This does not mean that now Cotto should use this, I just want to mention other fighters used catch weights, even Andre Ward against Chad Dawson. Still it was a good win for Cotto against a former two time Champ, who beat Sturm etc.

No, Dawson requested 168, so that he could become a multi-division champion.

Typical Cotto win. He looks great against guys like Geale, Yuri Foreman, Delvin Rodriguez. Props for the KO.
But we all know what will happen against a guy he can't walk down or is weight drained. Canelo or GGG would tax that ass. The only reason the Canelo fight is happening is HBO pulled rank on Cotto and told him whats up. They will not keep paying for these showcase fights without making him step up, which he doesn't want to do himself.
