When jumping weight classes goes wrong. If Broner had not skipped the light welterweight division, he might still be a confident fighter with an unbeaten record. He has looked average since the Maidana loss.

He should have made a few more defenses of his lightweight title, then move up to light welterweight and gradually increase his level of opposition, just like Crawford is doing right now. Broner looked like the real deal at lightweight.

Going straight from lightweight up to welterweight was a mistake. People overlooked that fact because they wanted him to lose regardless of the circumstances. Who in recent history has moved up two weight classes to take on a hard-hitting top 10 contender in his second fight? Terence Crawford is the truth, right? Would you pick him over the Maidana who faced Broner?
