i got a chance to see the fight, and have gone back through the first six or seven rounds a second time.
i have no issues with the degale decision. degale was clearly tired in the middle portion of the fight, but he caught a second wind. i think i'd give him the 11th and the 12th.
he scored two knockdowns. even in a 12 round fight, it's tough to come back from that.
good / very good fight. degale's still a bit of a frontrunner. he definitely got my attention in the early stages of that fight. he's not particularly strong, has only modest power, and isn't particularly fast. that doesn't mean he can't get the better of parts of a boxing match. he's surprisingly effective.
i'll really have to go back and watch the fight with more of a focus on degale to pin down what it was that i believe made him effective. i'm too andrecentric.
dirrell reminds me a bit of chad dawson. dawson had much better fundamentals. dirrell has the flash. both guys would be hard to handle if they let their hands go. their talent leaves you desiring more. dawson at his peak was obviously a much more dominant fighter. calzaghe and hopkins wanted nothing to do with chad dawson for a period in time. people forget how good he was.

Would love to see it but no way does DeGale get anywhere near the rematch. Dirrell looked like the more talented of the two, he just didn't have his head together that night. Not that I'm any fan of Dirrell, I just think DeGale was fortunate as hell in that fight.

As I said, I'm no fan of his, just being honest, a concept few around here can comprehend.
Dirrell was the better boxer? Is that why the majority of his combinations were being blocked or his jabs were falling short whilst DeGale clearly landed the harder, more telling blows throughout. DeGale coasted in there and gave away rounds rather than Dirrell actually winning them with clean boxing. It was a close but clear victory.
DeGale won't go anywhere near the rematch? What gives you that impression? He went over to your country and took the title. Last year, he signed to fight Ward in America. So where do you get this impression he wouldn't give Dirrell a rematch if he worked his way back into relevancy again?
Like I said, just sounds like sour g****s. I'm a fan of both fighters by the way and said before the fight that this was the match I was looking forward to most this year.Last edited by Dirk Diggler UK; 06-04-2015, 06:02 PM.
