Comments Thread For: Tureano Johnson-Heiland WBC Eliminator Requested

Promoter Gary Shaw has more than just a passing interest in this weekend's event at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn where Miguel Cotto defends his WBC middleweight title versus Daniel Geale. Shaw also promotes the WBC's second rated challenger, Tureano Johnson, who is waiting his turn for a crack at this belt.

I'd rather see the winner of Johnson/Heiland fight the winner of Lemieux/N'Dam, because by the time they would be mandated to fight Golovkin I'm hoping some meaningful fights might be happening for GGG.

I really like this match-up, rather have them have face each other than to be fed to 3G.

Johnson-Heiland gets made (with the winner being the mandatory challenger after Golovkin), Cotto vacates the belt, and then the WBC goes with Golovkin vs Johnson/Heiland winner for the vacant belt, the very bout that has generally been targeted for Golovkin's two bouts to close out the year.

          have fun

Kind of get a feeling Heiland just doesn't want that WBC ranking anymore knowing it could lead to GGG if he turns this down.

I have never seen this Tureano-guy fight, is he any good? Heiland at least is nothing special though.

That would be a FOTY candidate! Hard to gauge how much Heiland has really improved as Macklin is beyond shot. Still think Tureano would have way too much for him.

Must watch fight, Tureano is a savage.

He's average. Undeserving of his ranking based on his accomplishments. Active volume puncher with no pop. I honestly don't understand why he's rated as high as he is. Curtis Stevens has been outboxed by Jessie Brinkley and even Derrick Findley was getting the better of him. TJ's best wins were Gavronski and Theran - both mid-low level journeyman fighters.
