Cotta is a diva, a quitter and a coward. It would be great for boxing if Geale became a cherrypick gone wrong.

Look into it, if you haven't been around, or simply don't know. I'm all for rooting for your favorite fighters, but when GGG's best win (Geale) is Miguel Cotto's tune-up for Alvarez, you know there's a disparity resume-wise. And yes, I get it, everyone wants to think GGG's a monster, and that he's avoided, etc. I understand how enticing it is to dwell on that hype (no knock again). Margarito had that role for years (look into that guy, and the source of his power, unfortunately), and then Martinez took his place. Now, it's GGG's turn. It's all in good fun. All I'm saying is that a victory over Geale didn't warrant for Cotto to throw aside such a huge super-fight, as is the Cotto-Alvarez showdown. The money, the timing, wasn't there for a GGG fight. Cotto was in the middle of switching promoters (he didn't want to work with Top Rank, because he believes they were not paying him what he was owed). Things were quickly changing, and you cannot forget that Miguel knew that a fight vs GGG could be very interesting down the road. He has said so himself. Why should he ruin the potential super-event it could be, just to rush things? Sign a GGG fight in April, have it in June, and hope it's a success? I get how much his fans want for GGG to become the man of the division, but those circumstances warrant what has happened. Anything else would've been a waste of a great fight and great business. Despite the constant ranting of people, the only statements Cotto has clearly made are that, yes, he would be interested in a GGG fight, but only after the Alvarez fight, which, again, is huge, and, preferably, once GGG has built up his own resume (and, implicitly, his fan base). It's clear that Miguel Cotto's planning to save GGG for the last fight of his 3-fight contract with Roc Nation, if GGG is still undefeated by then. Cotto is not the type to run away from great challenges. He's just making sure the business-end of it is taken care of, too. Great fights happening with enough time to build them up properly are hits with both fans and boxers. Are all of us going to be there to support his business ventures or his family, once he retires? Or will many of us, as happens to all boxers, forget the person even existed and just move on to the next? Can you honestly blame him for wanting to make not only great fights, but also smart business decisions? He's still giving you the fights you want. Is it that terrible that he's going to make you wait ONE fight? Seriously? And again, this ONE fight, because Alvarez is clearly a great one that we should all want to see, is against the BEST opponent GGG has beaten. That's not the end of the world. He's been off for a year and wants a tune-up. It's called using your intelligence. Or would you go play at the NBA finals without having taken part in, at least, a decent match-up before then? Without even building up the finals properly? Think about it. What he's doing is logical. The only reason Miguel Cotto is not going around bragging about how he's going to fight everybody is because he's tired of anyone thinking they can tell him what to do. In boxing, if you let opponents or anyone else dictate terms, you are already losing (look up Pacquiao vs Cotto). Instead of trashing such a great legacy, we should, you should (if you plan to be a real boxing fan) do your research and then speak. I've been browsing this website for years, but, as I suspect will be the case of many long-time boxing fans, I've grown tired of this unbelievable attack on a great career. Do you know how many boxers have spent YEARS and YEARS avoiding elite competition? Avoiding for real. Cotto, right out the gate, has done nothing but provide us with some of the best fights this sport has seen. And he's been counted out, on the brink of being forgotten, many times. Miguel Cotto has been thought of as "damaged goods" since the FIRST Margarito fight! Excuse him if now, after proving so many people wrong so many times, he prefers to secure his family's well-being, instead of just immediately quenching random people's bloodlust, for a change. A boxer has just taken charge of his own career. I am proud! You should be too! As for GGG, he looks to have a great career ahead of him. Triple G should fight Froch, get that A-level name on his resume, and then ask for a fight against Cotto. And yes, Cotto will only do this fight on his terms. He is and will be the A-side on that one. It's up to triple G to form his own legacy in the boxing world, and, yes, that means being the B side until you reach A-level. I'll be waiting to see if GGG can prove himself against Cotto, but I suspect Cotto will finish off his great career with one heck of a victory. Good luck.
Holy sh..it that may be the greatest 1st post I've ever read on here
Nothing but pure truth, Barcham & Nerd Slapper read it you might learn some things.

Fkn superb, common-sense is your friend, well done.
Cotto is clearly not a middleweight, and he is clearly winding down his career. Cotto accidentally collecting the WBC middleweight belt, and lineal MW title, by winning a money fight against Martinez..... means nothing for Golovkin.
Golovkin should stop trying to pad his record with smaller name fighters like Cotto/Canelo/Mayweather, and carve his own path, like Canelo is doing.
Silly ****s - mostly casual fans - think that ABC belts and lineal titles matter.
But they dont.
Cotto is the 5th consecutive Lineal Middleweight Champion who WAS NOT the best fighter at 160.
The only thing more over-rated than " lineal " is P4P.
If Cotto is motivated by the right thing, he will accept an offer from Mayweather for September, tell Canelo that his last chance to secure a fight will be early 2016..... and then ride off into the sunset.

the thing is, he doesn't wanna let the belt go, he earned it so that's fine, but GGG is also a mw, so nobody can complain if he starts calling cotto out, since both are campaigning at mw.
And, of course you are correct, Cotto is a huge draw and does not need a belt to attract massive attention from say a Canelo or Golovkin fight.
He should drop that worthless strap, I agree man.
Or, casual fans could smarten up and stop tripping over worthless ABC straps.
My kid knows who the best middleweight is, he likes Golovkin..... but he doesnt turn into a spastic as soon as Cottos name is mentioned, just because Cotto happened to stumble across a completely worthless lineal title.
One of those things should happen ^^

Yes he's still Golovkin's destroyed leftovers forced down to a catchweight. But compared to crippled sergio, crippled yuri, part time mma fighter mayorga, etc, Geale would be one of the best wins of Cotto's career next to Mosely.
Grow up man !
Golovkin is a genuine MW, a supposed killer, has been fighting at 160 for 9 years..... and Geale is his best win.
Cotto is not a genuine MW, not a supposed killer, has been fighting at 160 for 5 minutes..... so IF he beats Geale, which is no given, Golovkins resume is looking weak-as-fcuk, compared to the part-timer MW Cotto.
Isnt your perception (spin) waaaaay different to mine ?
Grow up !
