Comments Thread For: Seven Day Weights: Cotto 163.6, Geale 167.5

This coming Saturday night, World Boxing Council middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4-0, 32 KOs) will face Australia's Daniel Geale (31-3, 16 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Both fighters took part in the WBC's seven day weigh-in, and both are within the weight stipulations. The WBC closely monitors the boxers weight for safety and health reasons.

So looks like the 30 day weight was a lie....or he shot up in weight.
Either or, he's more than 10 pounds off a week away... looks like it's time to train for the weight
    -_-

I've said this before about these WBC early weigh-ins: you don't know if the fighters are cutting weight for them as they do for the real weigh-in or if they just walk on the scale.

I think for the 30 day weigh-in, Geale cut the water weight like he would for the main weigh-in and for this one he just walked on the scale. I'm actually happy to see he's this high b/c if he was lower I'd be worried about him being seriously drained like Dawson vs Ward.

I imagine that these weights will probably be within a pound or two of what they will be on fight night.

Promoter Gary Shaw clarified to BoxingScene.com that Geale's 30-day weight, released by the WBC as 158, was inaccurate. He said 'no chance' he was 158-pounds 30 days ago.

Yea, Matt said Geale did an interview earlier saying there was no way that was true... but the WBC just rolled with that as an official weight.... they're cool with that?
