    Layoff spells doom for Lyakovich

I don't know where boxers these days get the nerve to take huge layoffs heading into their fights, but it's been proven time and time again that it is detrimental to your career. Sergei Lyakovich (forgive me if I can't spell his name, but it's not like I'm ever going to need to learn how) is coming off a 16-MONTH layoff heading into the biggest fight of his career!!!! What, has he not fought anybody since Guinn? How ****** these guys can be!! Look what happened in January when Mormeck and Judah came off almost year long layoffs each: THEY WERE UPSET AND BEATEN, Judah by an inferior opponent, and Mormeck knocked the **** out! I made a thread prior to that, asking how much of an effect the layoff can have, and it was proven to be costly. I don't need to know anything else about Lyakovich at this point. Brewster by easy KO in the mid-rounds.

Stop taking layoffs. It's bad for the fans and perilous to your career.

i dont think being more active is goin to help him a whole lot in this fight. he looks to be in way over his head. I've only seen him once against guinn and he looked very average, definatley not a top ten fighter. and if he doesnt have a chin then LB will sooner or later flatten him....

The morale of the story is look past the fighter's last fight (Brewster) and don't always apply what failed for one fighter (long layoff) to another.

Lyakhovich said that while he had been off for a year, he had several proposed fights during that time which got him in the gym, then it would fall through and another would come up and fall through. He was supposed to fight Byrd last year per Don King, but Byrd chose not to fight him.

Sometimes a statement like that ("I've been out of the ring, but I'm coming in in great shape") is just rhetoric, but other times it's genuinely true. It depends on the fighter and how dedicated they are. We saw that Sergei was absolutely telling the truth and was in incredible shape last night. Remember the 2 year layoff Kostya had where everyone predicted he would get beat by Mitchell? Because Judah and Toney slack with layoffs doesn't mean everyone else does.

He certainly surprised me. I said this in another thread,
Brewster wins two fights that I just knew he'd lose (Wlad, Golota), and lose the one fight I just knew he'd win lol

I can admit being wrong. Layoffs are not good. Liakhovich, however, IS good. We just didn't know it. Maybe 4 posters knew it. Other than that, shut the **** up.
