Cotto got physically, mentally and psychologically destroyed by Margarito a year earlier and was coming off a close fight against clottey, it's not so much due to the catchweight, it's more due to them fighting cotto at the worst time of his career. You can't honestly sit here and tell me that Bob Arum didn't sign certain guys to slave contracts. These guys literally had to resign YEARLY contracts with him just to even get a fight. That's why guys like Bradley, Chavez, Rigo, Mikey Garcia and so on wanted out. To my surprise, Bradley actually got a good deal out of it but the other guys had no choice but to leave.
