Comments Thread For: Mendoza Decisions Melindo In Foul-Filled Affair

Javier Mendoza made the first successful defense of his junior flyweight title, outpointing Milan Melindo in a foul-plagued affair Saturday evening in Ensenada, Mexico.

Scores were 60-52 (twice) and 59-53 in favor of Mendoza in a bout that was stopped at 2:39 of round six due to an accidental clash of heads. [Click Here To Read More]

Mendoza is probably the worse belt holder in all of boxing, man he sucks. Terrible fight and an even worse referee. The whole thing was a sham.

S**t fight. Very disappointed in Melindo, . I was hoping Melindo knocked Mendoza into next week after I noticed that Mendoza was looking for a way out of the fight a minute into the first round.

I was confident in Melindo's boxing ability if the fight fully matured... What a let down

Yeah, I can't believe Melindo wasn't able to outbox someone as basic as Mendoza, . I was hoping Melindo won a world title and that catapulted El Gallo into the Top 5 P4P (It worked for Chocolatito). Ni modo, .

Weird, you are the second person I've seen ask that (unless you and the other person who asked are actually one and the same). A robbery never even entered my mind - unless, we're talking about being robbed of entertainment value.

The only rounds I came close to scoring for Melindo were 5 and 6. I guess those pissed off at the outcome are claiming Mendoza found a way out as Melindo started coming on. A minor argument to be made, but Melindo was dirty as hell and for the first few rounds fought like a fighter trying to get DQ'd.

sorry for the late reply, i was at the arcade playing blast billiards lol so i didnt see your reply.

i got no problem if melindo lost fair and square. i was just asking coz some of the comments were bashing mendoza and the ref thats why i thought melindo mightve been robbed. seems like he wasnt though, and since he fought dirty he deserves the outcome then.

                my apologies.

I watched the fight and I agree that Melindo lost fair and square. I guess the Filipino followers were expecting an easy victory of their conational based probably in his ability of boxing but reality was that he was forced to trade with Mendoza and was getting punished. Because of it, Melindo decided to start resourcing to low blows, head butting and even using his knees to collide (like it happened at the end of round 5th). The referee could or should have been DQ'ed Melindo. I believe Melindo's frustration came from the fact that he prepared around 4 months for this title fight and he was expecting something very different to what he faced last night. Sometimes watching tapes and studying/predicting another fighter just becomes useless as it seems it was the case regarding yesterday's fight.

Mendoza was beating Melindo up early constantly digging lefts to the body hurting him a couple times he definitely wasn't liking that.

Despite having long arms that Mendoza doesn't really try to use he brings high energy/volume not the most technical guy but I kind of like him.

My guess Mendoza would of won a dec or stopped Melindo late if not for the early TD.
