  • Comments Thread For: Javier Fortuna Decisions Vasquez To Grab WBA Belt

Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York - For the vacant WBA 'regular' super featherweight championship, Javier Fortuna ( 28-0-1, 20KOs) punched his way to a twelve round unanimous decision victory over Bryan Vasquez (34-2, 18KOs). The scores were 116-112, 117-111, 117-111.

Fortuna countering in the first round and pressing to lure Vasquez into a fire fight. Vasquez was staying calm and picking his spots with accurate shots in the contest. Fortune was eventually able to get Vasquez to stand and trade.

Fortuna was out-punching him during exchanges, but Vasquez was also having his moments and able to take whatever Fortuna was able to land.

It was such a sloppy fight!! Fortuna only works for like the last 20 seconds of each round.

Great fight, I had Fortuna winning 8-4, but he's a vicious KO waiting to happen.

Lol - PBC giving no name recognition to these alphabet titles. NFG about those titles!

That was a fun fight to watch. Sloppy but entertaining

fortuna called out Gamboa recently, Gamboa posted it on his social media page and said he was about to pick up the phone to call 50, it'd be a good fight, i hope gamboa does fight him and knocks him out, two fighters that exchange punches with their hands down could be interesting

I'm not sure what fight you were watching. You can say he is sloppy but a slow work rate...come on son!

I'd love to see Fortuna vs Walters. Good win for Fortuna but when he 1st came on to the scene I thought he was a lot more polished as a fighter. I just don't see the progression in his skills from when he KO'ed that prospect on ESPN FNF

He mainly works in the last 30 seconds. He's not constantly working, plus it's my opinion if you don't agree than ok. What do you think just because you saw something different, I'm going to be like, "oh yeah you're totally right, my bad", hell no!! Boxing is subjective.
Fortuna is a knockout waiting to happen!!

And its all good...you have your opinion and I have mine. However, the numbers/stats of punches thrown and landed do not favor your opinion. See there is no way he could have thrown over 500 punches if he only worked the last 30 seconds...but it's cool...stick with your opinion. And one last thing..I also agree with you that he is a knockout waiting to happen...sadly but true.

But when did I say he doesn't work the rest of the round? I said he works mainly in the last 30 seconds and that's something his future opponents should look out for. Ok I see now, I'll admit I worded it wrong the first time by saying "only", but his work does mainly come in the last 30 seconds.
I was exaggerating but that's how I get on fight night. Not a fan of Fortuna tbh. The guy in your avatar is much better!
