  • Comments Thread For: Frankie Gomez Back in The Gym, Eyes July Return

Tuesday day afternoon was media day for Miguel Cotto at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood. As the Puerto Rican star prepared to meet the press, you saw Frankie Gomez winding down his days work on the stationary bike.

'the Pitbull' was scheduled to face Humberto Soto as the co-main on HBO on May 9th underneath Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez but essentially missed weight by a whole weight class as he came in at just a shade over 147 pounds. The contracted weight for that match-up was 141 pounds. The fight was eventually scrapped leaving both HBO and Golden Boy Promotions non-plussed.

Stationary bike? & I think I'll make 140? wow, lol. How about some road work? He's only 23 & a professional athelete. Weight should fall right off at that age. Ive always thought stationary bikes were for middle aged women and men recovering from an injury. I know a bike is apart of boxing conditioning but get on a bike on pavement, run on the street, & swim on off days. Thatll drop the weight right off and harden the joints of shock. I hope the best for Gomez but he needs to get out of LA and hook up with another trainer or become the welterweight(s) version of Arreola.

If Frankie is so good, why not fight at welterweight? 147 is better to accommodate his current work ethic.

Good. He needs to be in the gym regularly and fighting regularly.

He wasted a lot of people's time and efforts showing up as out of shape as he did.

Not gonna give up on him yet, but he's going to Bojado his career if he doesn't get serious.

Hopefully it won't come to that, because he's got a lot of talent.
