Rescore: Did Andre Dirrell Beat Carl Froch - Should He Have Been WBC World Champion?

Let's go back to a fight which happened in 2009 - Andre Dirrell vs Carl Froch for the WBC World Title at 168.

Here it is, watch the fight, score it round by round, post your score and vote on the poll.

I had Dirrell winning the fight, it's strange looking back those 6 years and thinking what would have happened to Dirrell if he'd won that fight and became a World Champion at 25. Which direction would have career have gone, would the Abraham incident still happen, would he have taken so much time out the sport etc.. Who knows..

With the fight on mute, I scored it by 1 to Dirrell. That's a change from my original card, where I had it between a draw-1 to Froch.

It was close, despite what some morons here might say.

The real issue was Dirrell. Though he landed the cleaner punches, he employed low tactics; he ran for the entirety and threw himself to canvas in protestation.

I thought Dirrell won. I admit I haven't seen it in years, but Dirrell really looked good in the championship rounds. If he had fought all 12 with that kind of confidence, he would have easily won.

Basically this. Haven't seen it in years, don't care to watch it again.

Dirrell's b!tch-like antics cost him the fight.

Excessive holding, throwing yourself to the canvas, spoiling at every opportunity....It was dreadful. Considering how good he looked when he actually engaged, it made no sense.

I do think Carl won this fight. It was close and sometimes messy but I think Froch did actually win it.

Dirrell's approach is strange in this fight though. He starts off pretty well, then loses a bunch of rounds and tries to get point deductions etc in his favour, then when it is too late he looks great by attacking Froch.

If it wasn't for the flopping and talking to the referee looking for favours, and he actually took it to Froch he could have won a pretty clear decision. It wouldn't have been a split decision put it that way. If Andre fought the whole fight, or the majority of it at least, the way he did in rounds 11 and 12 then he would have plainly won, but he didn't do that.

Maybe; it was close. But he sure as hell didn't deserve to win flopping around like that.

Unfortunately a loss is a loss whether you disagree with it or not, it's like saying Martin Murray should be a two time world champion.
