Actually Marquez did move down to 135 and 140 , fought twice in each division, after the Mayweather fight. He only moved up again to challenge Pacquiao. Most boxers who know Floyd have said he's not a legit Welterweight either. Even at age 38 he can make 140.
If JMM isn't a WW then he should have moved back down to 140 or 135 like Broner and other non Welterweights have done.
Speaking of Broner, I rarely hear anyone say Broner wasn't a legit WW when he fought Maidana. Even though just a year prior to the Maidana fight, Broner was at 130.
The double standard are pathetic.
Yeah Broner was at 130 missing weight though while Marquez never had any trouble making weight. Broner was always huge at the lower weights (130,135) and even looked like the bigger fighter when he fought Paulie.Comment

Broner was big for 130 but that doesn't change the facts that he jumped three weight classes in a 1 year span.
When he lost to Maidana, I didn't hear any EXCUSES about how Broner wasn't a real Welterweight. Even though it was obvious then and now that he wasn't a true Welterweight.
But JMM fans have used the excuse of blown up lightweight since the Mayweather fight and it gets accepted as fact.Comment

He fought Alvarado and Bradley after knocking out Pacquiao several years after the Mayweather fight. He went straight back down to 135 after Mayweather and had no trouble making weight. Yet Broner went down to 140 and couldn't even make weight last fight out. Clearly he has trouble making weight. He also fought Tim Bradley and Alvarado at Welter.

Edit: Also forget the fact Broner had already campaigned at WW and was a champ at that division before his loss to Maidana unlike Marquez who had no previous experience.Last edited by Dinamita 03; 05-26-2015, 07:49 PM.Comment

Hey, the king of the false equivalency is here. Malcolm, listen carefully...go away. That is all.He also fought Tim Bradley and Alvarado at Welter.

He is of average size for a welter. Not huge, average. He could drop to 140 just like Pac and JMM could drop to 135, they're smaller guys. Their frames are smaller, they're shorter, they're arms are half a foot shorter....they're little guys that typically re-hydrate below the WW limit and Floyd 5-10lbs above that. None of them are big welters but Floyd is definitely bigger than those two. Most boxers who know Floyd have said he's not a legit Welterweight either. Even at age 38 he can make 140.

And Marquez moved right back up to welter and looked great against Pacquiao in the third fight. Can't say he was settled into that weight because he had only fought there once before several years ago. In fact, I don't think he ever settled into that weight, but like 154 is for Mayweather, 147 is a place Marquez entertains for money and legacy. He fought Alvarado and Bradley after knocking out Pacquiao several years after the Mayweather fight. He went straight back down to 135 after Mayweather and had no trouble making weight. Yet Broner went down to 140 and couldn't even make weight last fight out. Clearly he has trouble making weight.Comment
